Systemic change is both possible and necessary to achieve our vision of preparing every child for success. Therefore, the following district goals have been developed for the 2011-2012 School Year:
- Through examination and study of the common core standards for Language Arts Literacy and Mathematics, both teachers and administration will develop an in depth knowledge of the common core standards as they apply to students in grades K-8. Through committee work and shared leadership, the new learning will be used as a basis for comparison to the current curriculum and instructional practice. Curricular realignment, a recommendation for material adoption, professional training and modification of instructional practice will be the responsibility of this organizational framework. This district goal will expand over a three year time period.
- To foster an environment of professionalism that encourages the teaching staff to engage in continuous growth through cultivating an environment conducive to the development of professional learning communities as well as providing opportunities for job-embedded professional development. Job-embedded professional development will be provided through various modalities not limited to work with Lit Life and WPU Professor in Residence as well as use of team time and staff meetings.
- To utilize data collected from the Fountas and Pinnel Benchmark Assessment testing administration to guide instruction in the area of reading.
- As a result of the increase in the percentage of a “proficient standard” set by the New Jersey Department of Education, provide students with differentiated instructional strategies to increase the percentage of students, inclusive of all sub-groups, that score in the “proficient and advanced proficient” range on the Language Arts and Mathematics portion of the NJ ASK, Grades 3-8.
- To prepare for NJ QSAC, the Department of Education’s monitoring and evaluation system for public school districts. The district will use the District Performance Review (DPR) to conduct a self-evaluation of the five key component areas required by statute: instruction and program, fiscal management, governance, personnel and operations.
