Overview

Department of Special Services

The North Haledon School District Department of Special Services provides services for students from the age of three through grade eight that are identified with special needs. The purpose of the child study team is to identify and evaluate children in need of special education intervention.

The district child study team provides diagnostic evaluations that may include an educational evaluation by the Learning Disabilities Teacher-Consultant (LDT-C), a psychological evaluation by the School Psychologist, a social work assessment by the School Social Worker, and if determined needed, a speech/language evaluation by the Speech/Language Specialist. Additional evaluations may be conducted as determined needed, including an occupational therapy evaluation by the Occupational Therapist and physical therapy evaluation conducted by the Physical Therapist.

Once the evaluations are conducted, results are interpreted and discussed with the student’s parents and teacher(s) and eligibility for special education and related services is determined. If a child is determined eligible, an Individualized Education Program (IEP) will be developed for the student based on the student’s individual needs.
